About The Rotary Foundation

The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.

PolioPlus is the volunteer arm of a global partnership dedicated to eradicating polio. Two billion children have been immunized, five million have been spared disability, and over 250,000 deaths from polio have been prevented. Other programs of the Foundation include international group study exchange programs, scholarships for study abroad, disaster recovery, grants for university teachers, a peace and fellowship conflict studies program, and matching grants to clubs for international service projects.


About the Buchanan Club

The Buchanan club meets on Tuesdays at 6:30 pm for fellowship, a home cooked meal, and a short business meeting. The club currently has twelve active members. Fund raisers and service projects include spaghetti suppers, sponsored productions at the Buchanan Theater, a free coffee stand on I-81 during holiday periods, a food stand at the Mountain Magic festival, and a highway trash pickup. During the period July, 2006 to December, 2008, the club expended:

  • $14,813 for a major upgrade and ongoing maintenance/ operation of the club-owned Boy Scout building in Buchanan.
  • $3,000 donated to the to the Rotary Foundation.
  • $465 to sponsor attendance at Boys'/Girls' State
  • $2,000 for scholarships for local high school students.
  • $1,235 to sponsor high school students to attend Rotary Youth Leadership programs at Virginia Tech.
  • $2,200 plus a matching grant from Rotary International to purchase medical equipment for the Botetourt Free Clinic.
